There’s nothing artificial about the results you might get with a resume like this!

Let’s now analyze some examples of different Artificial Intelligence Developer resume sections. No matter your experience level, you will get a good idea about how to approach your own professional document.

Entry-Level AI Developer Resume Tips and Examples

You might not have yet created the next generation of chatbots or the next great gaming app, but you can still find plenty of opportunities in this field. It’ll just take the right resume that shows you are wired for a long and successful career in robotics or machine learning, or have experience in other related areas such as working as a Software Developer.

Start by considering the format of your entry-level resume. As a beginner, a hybrid format is preferred so you can focus equally on experience and skills.

Crafting Your AI Developer Resume Summary

With no direct work experience in AI, you will need to start your resume off with a summary that gives a quick insight into your achievements and what you can offer the company. This might come after a resume headline, or directly below your contact information.

As with almost anything, there’s a right and wrong way to create your resume summary. Let’s start with an example that might not get your resume into the interview pile.

Wrong ❌

Enthusiastic individual with the desire to employ strong technical skills in areas of machine learning and robotics. Some experience in data mining and analytics. Skilled team player ready to help organizations reach their AI goals.

It’s a good idea to name a few key skills instead of simply stating that you’re “skilled.”

Rather than “some experience”, you might instead say that you have a “solid background” in data mining and analytics, and how you got it. As is, this summary simply lacks detail and is too non-specific. Try to include information that shows growth within your career.

Let’s see a better example:

Right ✅

Creative, innovative professional with an academic background in computer science eager to apply knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning to introduce automated processes in payroll and employee records maintenance. Studies provided focus and development of skills in deep learning and regression analysis.  Established problem-solving and analytical skills developed through assessing new systems and resolving issues as an IT manager.

Here, you’ve emphasized your areas of expertise and shown your experience can be applied to your role as an AI developer. You’ve also identified a couple of IT-specific skills in artificial intelligence that potential employers might be looking for in a candidate.

💡top tip

Your resume object or summary should be about 3-4 sentences long.

Fine Tuning Your Entry-Level AI Developer Resume Work Experience

Not having a background in artificial intelligence does not mean you have no chance of landing an entry-level position in this field.

If you have any professional background in software engineering, IT, or even data analytics, this certainly gives you plenty of opportunities to emphasize certain responsibilities that would easily tie into AI development.

But what if you were, say, a Digital Marketing Analyst or Systems Admin manager?

There might still be certain managerial tasks and technological duties you performed that could transition seamlessly to AI development. You could also have built relevant skills through prior work experience and remote-working skills that are important for AI developers.

💡top tip

Note any soft skills being sought by employers in an AI Developer job posting and highlight your specific work experience that proves you developed or displayed them.

Did you manage a team? Do you have leadership experience? Have you created a new approach to advertising by assessing consumer behavior data? If so, you possess data analysis skills.

Did you, for example, find a new way to gather financial information for a corporate accounting department to save costs? Then you have demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

  • Performed a cluster analysis on customer segmentation by applying algorithms in R, resulting in a 28% increase in market share for the first half of 2022.

The Education Section of Your AI Developer Resume

If you’ve studied computer science or a relevant subject, you’ll want to include this in your entry-level artificial intelligence developer resume.

If you don’t have AI work experience to highlight, you might add a list of relevant coursework you completed that can demonstrate your knowledge and abilities.

Have you got any programming projects that you could add to your resume? If you completed these at college, you can add them here too. Otherwise, if they were done in your free time, wait for the extra sections at the end of your document.

Your education section should look a bit like this:

Example
Copied!

Education

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

University of Delaware, Newark

2020

Relevant Coursework:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Introduction to Machine Learning
  • Introduction to Data Mining
  • Logic for Programming
  • Introduction to Computer Vision

If you don’t have formal education in AI, you can also list any robotics camps, internships, certifications or online courses you took that are relevant to the field.

Power Up Your Entry-Level AI Developer Resume with These Smart Skills

If you have little or no experience in AI engineering, your Skills section becomes even more important on an entry-level AI Developer resume.

But before you can evaluate which skills are most relevant, start by looking at some typical responsibilities of AI developers.

The most relevant responsibilities for an entry-level AI developer may vary depending on the specific requirements of the job or industry. However, here are four commonly important responsibilities for an entry-level AI developer:

  • Model training and optimization
  • Data preprocessing
  • Model evaluation and validation
  • Deploying and integrating models

Now that you have a clearer idea of what an entry-level AI developer does, let’s see how they translate into hard skills:

  • Programming languages: Proficiency in Python, R, or Java.
  • Machine learning: Supervised/unsupervised learning, cross-validation, and evaluation metrics.
  • Deep learning: TensorFlow or PyTorch, CNNs, and RNNs.
  • Mathematics and statistics: Algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
  • Data preprocessing: Ability to handle missing data, perform feature scaling, and engineer features.
  • Data visualization: Proficiency in Matplotlib or Seaborn for effective data visualization.
  • Programming libraries and tools: Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, and Jupyter Notebook.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Version control: Git.

The best way to list skills on your AI developer resume is by grouping your hard skills into the Skills section and distributing your soft skills throughout the rest of your resume summary and Experience section.

💡top tip

Since your work history will lack specific experience, place your Skills section immediately after your summary and before your work history or education sections.

Certifications, Other Training, and More for an AI Developer Resume

From programming language certifications to side projects, Other Sections can help your resume when you don’t have relevant work experience.

Here’s where you get to boast about being awarded first place with your robotics project at a STEM college fair, completing a coding boot camp, or attaining R programming certification.

Remember: When listing certifications, be sure to include the name of the organization that granted the certification as well as the date you earned the credential:

Example

Professional Certifications

  • Certified Artificial Intelligence Engineer (CAIE™)- United States Artificial Intelligence Institute, 2022
  • Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate — Coursera, 2021
  • Certified Professional in Python Programming 1 (PCPP1™) – Python Institute, 2019

Listing any relevant volunteer positions, membership in civic organizations, or hobbies and interests can really help round out your resume and show potential employers that you are diverse and versatile.

Experienced AI Developer Resume Tips & Examples

If you’ve already begun to change the world by having a hand in building simulated human intelligence products, then you’ll take a different approach to your resume.

If your experience lies in machine learning, you can also see our Machine Learning Engineer resume guide for more tips and examples.

💡top tip

A reverse-chronological format is best for experienced AI developers when preparing their resumes. But you can still list your technical skills first if you think the job role requires it.

Grab Attention with a Strong Summary For Your AI Developer Resume

If you have a background in AI, your summary is where you get to highlight some of your best accomplishments and abilities.

You can indicate your expertise in programming languages such as HTML and Python and capitalize on using solid AI Developer keywords and industry terminology, i.e. “machine learning” and “deep learning.”

Wrong ❌

Eager Artificial Intelligence Developer with many years of experience in modeling and software engineering. Knowledge of programming languages and data mining. Professional skillset including collaborative and organizational skills.

About the only thing right with this summary sample is that it falls into the 3-4 sentence format. Otherwise, it lacks specifics—how many years of experience? In which programming languages are you proficient? What AI-specific skills do you possess?

Right ✅

Solutions-driven Artificial Intelligence Developer with 7+ years of experience in generating medical application software that detects and makes initial diagnoses of benign cysts with a 92% accuracy. Highly proficient in JavaScript, R, and Python. Proven skills in modeling, machine learning, and data analytics.

Real, measurable accomplishments, specific years of experience, and relevant skills help this summary prove you have the tools for AI success.

Remember: Your summary is one of the first things a hiring manager will see on your resume. It should make a reader want to further explore your credentials. Make it count!

An Eye-Opening Experience Section for Your AI Developer Resume

The Experience section is where you get to highlight your real intelligence when it comes to artificial intelligence. Done right, your resume becomes a well-oiled machine. Done wrong, and that machine breaks down.

Wrong ❌

Artificial Intelligence Developer

07/2012 to 04/2018

Nexus-6

• Responsible for managing systems integration architectures.

• Created and tested system prototypes.

• Oversaw team of 11 coders with expertise in 7 programming languages.

Artificial Intelligence Developer

05/2018 to Current

Deckard Corporation

• Helped drive AI strategies and solutions.

• Collaborated with product managers and data analysts to troubleshoot machine learning technologies.

• Reviewed and implemented new applications as needed.

“Siri, what’s wrong with this example?”

For starters, it’s not in the recommended reverse-chronological order for AI Developers with experience. Secondly, it doesn’t include company location. Moreover, the job duties are simply too broad and do not reflect any particular accomplishments or measurable successes that hiring managers love to see.

Yes, you can collaborate well, and you’ve created models which is a big plus in artificial intelligence, but what solutions did you provide? Which applications did you implement? What programming languages are you proficient in? How did your responsibilities lead to corporate savings or revenue growth?

A Better Experience Section Example

💡top tip

It could help to study an AI Developer job description if you’re unsure of which duties and responsibilities you might focus on for your Experience section.

Education Matters: Getting It Right

In many cases, an academic background in computer science, software engineering, or a similar area is needed to work in artificial intelligence; therefore, your education section is important.

In an experienced AI Developer resume, you will not need to list relevant coursework, as your work history will showcase your abilities and talents.

So, simply list the name of the institutions, degree earned, and dates attended.

So, simply list the names of the institutions you attended and the degrees earned. List the highest degree you earned first, and work backward.

Key AI Skills to Showcase Your Expertise

The Skills section is where you can succinctly list the top technical skills that you have acquired at work, through study, or in your free time projects.

Apart from the skills mentioned in the Entry-Level section of this article, take the following skills into consideration:
